The DB Glow
The DB Glow ethos of radiant beauty as a manifestation of wellness on display (Photo: TLY)

The DB Glow

As SO continues its focus on self-care, we check in today at DB Glow, an aesthetic medicine practice located at 4 Holborn Road, for a consultation with founder Dainia Baugh, MD.

Stepping into the 800-sq-ft space you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve been transported to a medical spa in Los Angeles, Sarasota, or Houston. It’s that fab!

The location is, in fact, home to Locale, a name whose very definition — a place where something happens — perfectly encapsulates the curated space.

“I joined Kerry-Ann Clarke and Aiesha Panton [co-owners of Locale] who are at the top of their respective fields. They share my passion for excellence and we have co-created a concept that accommodates and facilitates all things beautiful. As we laughingly say, ‘You can come for the style and stay for the glow,'” Baugh shares. The tag line has proven mutually beneficial.

First things first though, the personable Baugh left Jamaica for the US after graduating from Immaculate Conception High School. She attended medical school at the University of Tennessee, where she also received elite specialist medical residency training. There was, too, a faculty appointment at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine. Baugh has also practised internal, aesthetic and integrative medicine across the USA and Jamaica for almost 30 years.

“I am a serial entrepreneur and a partner in the Nashville area India Health Service, which is actively engaged as an investor in multiple projects in the USA, Africa, and the Caribbean,” she adds, as she flashes her signature smile.

There’s more! Baugh holds several distinguished fellowships, including fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh; American Academy of Anti Aging Medicine; and American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. She’s also held academic faculty and directorship positions in major academic centres in the USA and has published seminal papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and continues to engage in research with academics in other institutions, and has been a pioneering leader in the practice of wellness and aesthetics since 2002.

“The skin is the largest organ in the body,” she tells SO. “It is also the most visible. Abnormalities usually have their root in what’s happening inside the body, and my approach to aesthetics is one of taking a holistic approach from the inside out.

“Using that approach, I founded NIMA [Nashville Internal Medicine Associates], which was the first medical practice of its kind in Nashville, Tennessee, focused on integrative medicine, wellness, weight management and aesthetics. My innovations also contributed to the development of what has now become the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

“What has now become commonplace to merge traditional with holistic medicine approaches buttressed by aesthetic practices, was at that time cutting-edge. NIMA was hugely successful and remained in operation even after we answered the call to help improve cardiovascular care in Jamaica,” she added.

Baugh opened BREATH in 2009, a comprehensive medical wellness spa. “At the time, no such practice had existed in Jamaica or anywhere in the English-speaking Caribbean. We used many of the approaches at NIMA but intensified our aesthetic offerings. Back then, we were among the pioneers in injectables and many of the procedures that are now more readily available in Jamaica,” she revealed.

“Due to time constraints, as president, then interim CEO of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean and other international commitments as partner of IHS Group, USA, I eventually wound down both centres but continued a successful micro-practice with a small cohort of patients in Nashville and Jamaica only by referrals.

“Reopening an aesthetic medicine practice of this magnitude is driven by my excitement with the direction that aesthetics is moving. Cutting-edge approaches to aesthetics are merging with a regenerative thrust. The pursuit of clinical excellence has driven my practice of medicine for some three decades. I have always combined a focus on prevention, regenerative techniques, and wellness with acute interventions. I realised there was a gap in the offerings that were locally available, and the international aesthetics market has now turned its focus to match my long-standing integrative medicine approach to skincare.

“At last, celebrity injectors are speaking of regenerative approaches and not just being ‘fresh off needles’. I feel like the audience is more accepting of aesthetic changes that build upon themselves to give a fresh, natural yet beautiful look as opposed to who has the biggest lips.

“The market response to my practice has exceeded even my most optimistic expectations. I put a lot of thought into our location at Locale, and it has been so well-received.

“While I knew the DB Glow quality of care and the outcomes were strong; I had to ‘wait and see’ what the response to the range of services offered would be. I am thrilled by the positive client experiences, effective treatments, and the word-of-mouth referrals which have contributed to continuous growth.”

DB Glow menu offerings…

Include a range of non-surgical cosmetic treatments designed to enhance appearance, improve well-being and address various skin concerns.

• Dermal fillers and Botox: Injectable treatments to reduce wrinkles, restore volume, and achieve a more youthful look.

• Menopause and peri-menopause management with bioidentical hormone therapy

• Laser procedures: Laser treatments for skin rejuvenation, acne control, hair removal, pigmentation correction, and vascular issues.

•Physician level chemical peels: Exfoliating treatments to improve skin texture and reduce signs of ageing.

• Microneedling: A procedure that stimulates collagen production for improved skin texture and tone.

• Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) therapy: Uses a patient’s own blood components to rejuvenate skin and promote healing.

• Physician directed weight management programme including medications.

• Medical-grade skincare products:

Aerolase Laser Procedures:

This is another area of advancement for us. Aerolase is a brand of medical lasers used in various aesthetic treatments. These laser target specific skin concerns with precision. For example, they can address pigmentation issues and melasma by breaking down excess melanin or promote collagen production for skin rejuvenation.

Neo Elite is a device loved worldwide because of its ability to treat all ages and skin tones. With this laser, we can treat nearly all indications using two specialised treatments, NeoSkin and NeoClear by Aerolase.

NeoSkin rejuvenates, corrects, and prevents skin from ageing, sun damage, or even hormonal imbalances. NeoClear helps treat mild to severe acne for fast, effective acne clearance.

NeoSkin falls perfectly in line with our practice philosophy as it is also used for preventative maintenance. We can now add to our tool kit to diminish fine lines and wrinkles and say goodbye to age spots and redness. Now we have a better chance to completely improve your skin’s tone and texture.

The exact approach depends on the specific concerns being addressed but regardless of which treatment is chosen, patients can look forward to zero downtime, zero pain, and instantly noticeable results.

Serums and Skincare Products:

Our proprietary skincare line is Everyday Skin MD, and it is stunning! There is no bias in that claim as the results have been dramatic. We took many years of painstaking effort to curate this signature line. Everyday Skin takes a natural, holistic approach to vibrant and beautiful skin. Our carefully crafted ingredients focus on giving clients a youthful look to live and love your skin every day. My goal is to encourage consistency and compliance. This can only happen if the regimen is simple, straightforward, easy to use and maintains treatment results. So many complicated multi-step regimens exist, and I would put our line up against any of them.

Our serums, creams, and skincare regimens are concentrated formulations containing active ingredients formulated to address specific skincare concerns. These include anti-ageing, hydrating, and brightening serums, cleansers, moisturisers, and sunscreens.

We only use our line in our procedures and treatments.

Each new-patient encounter begins in the observation nook, with OBSERV 520X state-of-the-art skin imaging and analysis using advanced technology to examine your skin and identify any underlying skin conditions that may be affecting its health and appearance. (Photo: TLY)

The DB Glow is both art and science…replacing lost facial volume by creating EZ gel — a 100% natural, regenerative and volume filler that contains growth factors obtained from the patient’s own blood by stimulating collagen through microneedling with PRF or by using one of the multiple lines of EU- and FDA-approved dermal fillers that the practice stocks.
