FB HQ, located in Melbrook Heights, St Andrew, came alive on August 27 with a special back-to-school treat for the residents of Harbour View and neighbouring communities.

The treat was a joint project organised by High Life Entertainment, promoters of Mamosa Brunch; FAB Entertainment, promoters of Food and Brooze; and Kenisha Campbell-Williams.

Jaja Francis, promoter of Mamosa Brunch and one of the event’s organisers, said that the initiative was well received by residents.

“It was a significant success in terms of the turnout. This year we hosted more than 600 kids. The children, especially, were incredibly grateful for this event. Their expressions of gratitude were for the school supplies, toys, food, and fun that they received was witnessed through expression of words, smiles, and hugs,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

The event attracted a large number of adults and children who were fêted with school supplies, including bags, books, and stationery.

The children also enjoyed a variety of rides, among them a bounce-a-bout, train, trampoline, dance contests, and face-painting. They also feasted on snacks, popcorn, and snow cones.

Free medical examinations were also available to students by professionals Dr Warren McCalla, Nurse Candice Rennie, and Nurse Nicole Foster-Burnett.

Francis explained that the back-to-school treat is aimed towards improving the lives of residents of Harbour View and making Jamaica, by extension, the place of choice to live, work, raise families, and do business.

“It is significant because we aim at addressing the pressing issue of educational equity of families within communities that faces financial constraints. We want to make our presence felt in the community and be a beacon of hope for those who struggle with their educational needs as well as social well-being,” said Francis.

The co-organiser further stated that more promoters should consider hosting back-to-school treats.

“It was heartening to see so many parents, students, and community members come together to support our students’ education. The outpouring of support and participation will forever be memorable occasion for us. I would wholeheartedly advise other promoters to host back-to-school events because it makes a profound difference in the lives of children and families, and it also fosters positive impact within our communities as the needs of our children and youths are catered for,” he said.

For the remainder of the entertainment calender High Life Entertainment will host Mamosa Brunch on October 1 at GeeWee’s, 1A Caledonia Avenue, and FAB Entertainment will host Food and Booze on October 28 at FAB HQ Harbour View.
