‘Mad’ vibes @ InstaHype – The Koolout Sundayz Edition

While many patrons of InstaHype -The Koolout Sundayz Edition have given the event promoters many thumbs up for putting on a top notch show last Sunday in Stony Hill, St Andrew, many left with a bad taste in their mouths wondering why headliner, Chronic Law, arrived at the venue then left shortly after with his entourage.

Dancehall artistes Valiant and Jamal, as well as the line-up of music selectors, delivered much energy and excitement at the Pine Ridge venue on Castle Drive to the expectant attendees.

Promoter Andre Williams was ecstatic to see the large turnout and support that the party received from the patrons who came out to help him celebrate his September 10 birthday.

“The patrons responded well to the over two month’s promotion. The people really came out. The turnout was huge and the vibes was great. The people were happy to see Valiant; however, some people were perturbed that they didn’t get to see Chronic Law. Some of them said that even though they did get to see him [perform], it didn’t affect them in anyway because the party was good,” shared Williams.

The seasoned promoter said he believes Chronic Law owes his fans an explanation as to why he left the venue.

“He was booked for the event and he advertised for the event. His fans got word of that and, as a result, many persons came out to see him perform. If he respects his fans he should rightfully tell them why he showed up to the venue and then left,” he said.

For his part, Williams shared his experience of the chain of events.

“Chronic Law came to event. I personally went for him and waited for his entourage and security team to park their vehicles. We made one motion inside the venue. In a bizarre twist, he started demanding that everybody on the outside be allowed free entry. Without anybody even objecting to it or adding a voice to it, the artiste suddenly left the venue. We are professionals at what we do, so we had to hold our ground, because we could not afford for the entire show to pull apart,” he said.

Still, the birthday celebrant wanted to show appreciation for those who made the show the success that it was.

“I thank Valiant for coming through and doing his thing… We had a surprise performance by dancehall artiste Jamal, who journeyed from Montego Bay, St James, just to be a part of Instahype. The sound systems — DJ Didi from Team X-tream — I lift my hat off to him and also Boom Boom. People are talking about his set. He settled the dance and made the vibes right before the performances. ZJ West from ZIP 103 FM gave a good showing as well. [However,] there were issues with the sound and equipment, so DJ Shawn didn’t get to play.”

Up-and-coming dancehall artiste Ikonnic, who was a patron at the event, told the Jamaica Observer that the performers definitely delivered and he was more than pleased.

“Instahype was a good look. I give the atmosphere 10 out of 10. I give the vibes 10 out of 10 as well. The selectors stuck to the assignment and it worked. The guest artistes definitely delivered. Right now, I am just looking out for the next Instahype event. Most definitely!” he said.

Although happy with the overall show, female patron Tanesha, expressed disappointment that, after she was highly anticipating Chronic Law’s performance, the dancehall star left fans hanging.

“I enjoyed Valiant’s [performance], but I was most disappointed that Chronic Law came to the venue and left because I wanted to see him. I like his music and I’ve never seen him live, so I was really looking forward to his performance. I am even more disappointed by the manner in which he left. All in all, it was a good party and it was fun…it lived up to its name,” she said, adding the selectors did not disappoint even with rain delaying the start.
