Curran demands apology, compensation from Carlene over alleged comments
Youtuber Shelly Ann Curran has demanded a public apology from former Dancehall Queen Carlene Smith over comments that Smith allegedly made about Curran and her family during a private conversation with a social media personality.
The conversation has been republished on the internet and has since gone viral, according to a letter sent to Smith by Curran’s attorney, Ludlow Black.
In the letter, the attorney demanded a written apology acknowledging “the harm that your statements have caused and confirming that you will refrain from making defamatory statements about her in the future.
“This apology must be published on all the platforms where you have published and republished these offending defamatory materials. Additionally, my clients expects an offer of restitution by way of monetary compensation for the damage your careless, reckless, unconscionable and intentional actions have caused.
“We trust that you will take immediate action to rectify this situation and should we not receive an amicable response from you on or before Friday, the 22nd day of September, we have clear and precise instructions from our client to pursue legal action against you to safeguard our client’s reputation,” the letter warned.
When contacted about Curran’s demand for a public apology, Carlene Smith offered a curt “no comment”.
The letter further alleged that Smith was questioned about the accuracy of said comments on a radio station, and instead of “admitting that they were false, you proceeded to state that you had no regrets about what was said and that you know these statements to be true.
“Your baseless and inflammatory statements have caused tremendous harm to our client’s reputation and has caused her good name to be significantly diminished in the eyes of the general population,” the letter said.
