DOWN IN CLAIMING PHENOMENAL ONE WINS NUMBER TWO

Three-year-old chestnut colt Phenomenal One, who has been finding it difficult at the non-winners of two level, made use of the drop in class to register his second win from 15 starts.

Phenomenal One‘s success came in an Optional Claiming ($550,000-$450,000) spread that included five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of four) and imported five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of three) travelling six furlongs (1,200m).

With Reyan Lewis in the saddle for champion trainer Jason DaCosta, Phenomenal One raced in third position behind A Seh Soup (Roger Hewitt) and Bridal Blush (Bebeto Harvey).

Going into the half-mile (800m) turn Phenomenal One rounded horses and picked up the lead ahead of Bridal Blush and A Seh Soup.

Phenomenal One turned for home with a strong lead and went about his business to score an easy three-length win in a time of 1:15.4 (23.1 x 47.1). AKA Storm (Dane Dawkins) ran on for second place ahead of Bridal Blush in third spot.

THREE IN A ROW FOR RANI BANGALA

Rani Bangala, trained by Robert Pearson, completed her third-consecutive victory in a native-bred four-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of four) and imported four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three).

Going over 7½ furlongs (1,500m), Rani Bangala was settled in third position down the backstretch by champion jockey Dane Dawkins as She’s My Friend (Jerome Innis) led ahead of Sonny T and Chippy (Tevin Foster).

Rani Bangala maintained her steady gallop in third place despite She’s My Friend upping the tempo leaving the five-furlong (1,000m) point of the race. Navigating the half-mile turn, Sonny T and Chippy and Rani Bangala cut into She’s My Friend‘s lead, setting up a three-horse tussle coming in the lane.

Rani Bangala wasted no time and sprinted off to win the race by 3¼ lengths ahead of Sonny T and Chippy, in a time of 1:33.3 (24.0 x 47.1 x 1:11.4).

QUANTUM DANCER UPSETS AT 13-1

Quantum Dancer, who was neglected at odds of 13-1, produced a late run to upset her more-fancied rivals going five furlongs straight.

Owned and trained by Adin Williams and ridden by Tevin Foster, Quantum Dancer raced behind the early pace and watched as Bigmanbiden (Omar Walker), Action Run (Paul Francis), and Manaco (Dane Dawkins) vied for the advantage.

Quantum Dancer came into view passing the dummy rails when she raced in third place behind Manaco and Bigmanbiden, but quickly challenged for the lead at the furlong pole.

Quantum Dancer battled with Manaco for a brief moment before pulling away inside the final stages of the race to win by a length.

Manaco finished second and Colawill (Ramon Nepare) came home third in the three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($400,000-$300,000) event that also included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of four). The final time was 1:02.3 (24.1 x 47.2).

QUEEN ZAN COMES GOOD OVER THE STRAIGHT

Queen Zan, racing with firsttime Lasix, made light work of competitors in a native-bred five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of three) and an imported five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two) at five furlongs straight.

Queen Zan showed good speed at the start of the race, disputing the early lead with Absolute Blue (Reyan Lewis). The Barrington Bernardconditioned Queen Zan continued to blaze the trail with Absolute Blue nearing the quarter pole (200m), before pulling away inside the final furlong.

Jockey Roger Hewitt piloted Queen Zan to a twolength win margin at the line, ahead of Nakamura (Javaniel Patterson) and Genealogy (Shavon Townsend). The winning time was 1:02.0 (23.1 x 46.2).

FIVE CLAIMS

Anthony Dixon claimed Phenomenal One for owner Lancelot Ellis for $550,000 from Jason DaCosta while Ricardo Brown claimed AKA Storm for himself, also for $550,000, from Steven Todd in the opening race.

In the fourth race, Wilfred Chin claimed Bigmanbiden for owner Felecia Gordon from Byron Davis; Ryan Darby claimed Action Run for owner Raphael Gordon from Delroy Wisdom; and Marvin Campbell claimed Manaco for owner Rosdore from Steven Todd. All horses from the fourth event were claimed for $400,000 each.
