Snoop Lion topped Billboard’s Reggae Album chart 10 years ago

On September 25, 2013 American rapper Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion began a 34-week hold on to the #1 spot on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with 12th studio effort Reincarnation.

The artiste, which had several reggae offerings, featured collaborations with Popcaan, Drake, Akon, Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown, Mavado, Mr Vegas, Collie Buddz, among others.

Reincarnation, which sold 21,000 units in its first week of release, debuted at #16 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and #34 in the United Kingdom. The album also charted in Italy, France, New Zealand, Spain, Canada, Austria, and the Netherlands.

Major Lazer’s Diplo, Jamaican producer Dwayne “Supa Dups” Chin-Quee, and Dre Skull are among the producers who worked on the project.

Reincarnation has to date sold more than 200,000 units globally. It was nominated in the Best Reggae Album category of the 56th annual Grammy Awards.

Now onto this week’s Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers are on top for 192 non-consecutive weeks with Legend.

Shaggy’s Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection remains at #2, with Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection inching up to #3. At #4, his Grammy-winning Dutty Rock zooms up from #9.

No Love by Byron Messia dips to #5, while Wisdom by Stick Figure is steady at #6.

Greatest Hits by UB40 backtracks to #7, while Set in Stone and World on Fire by Stick Figure are #8 and #9.

Live at Red Rocks by Rebelution re-enters at #10.

Byron Messia’s Talibans II with Burna Boy, enters the German Urban chart at #21. Meanwhile, on the US Afrobeats Songs chart, it slips to #5.

The original version of Talibans appears to be losing momentum on various Billboard charts. On R&B/Hip Hop Airplay, it descends from #20 to #24 while over on Rap Airplay, the song plummets from #11 to #15.

Over to the Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, Talibans falls from #18 to #21, and on Rhythmic Top 40 it stays put at #21.

Wind Me Up by American inspirational singer Dante Bowe and Jamaican reggae artiste Anthony B is steady at #15 on Adult R&B Airplay chart.

Moving now to regional charts, singer Althea Hewitt takes over the #1 spot on the New York Reggae chart with her remake of Lulu’s To Sir With Love. Damian Marley’s remake of George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord rises from #4 to #2, while Look A Girl by Chino and Stephen McGregor steps up from #23 to #18.

This week’s new entries are Bad Boy Johnny by Tony Roy (#28), Fire in My Soul by Taddy P (#29), and No Destroyer by Burning Spear (#30).

On the South Florida Reggae chart, the remake of Don’t Know Much by singers Hopeton Lindo and Novel-T spends a second week at #1.

In Canada, the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart is reporting that What Ah Joy by The Memberz and JUNO Award-winning Jamaican singjay Exco Levi, is the new #1 song.
