Rusea’s, Manchester cop fourth consecutive wins in D Cup

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Former champions Rusea’s as well as Manchester High joined Annotto Bay High on four wins after scoring victories in Saturday’s weather affected round of matches in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition.

On a day when at least six of the 22 games were affected by poor weather, 10-man Rusea’s High edged rivals Frome Technical 1-0 in Zone B while Manchester High beat Mt St Joseph Catholic 6-0 in their Zone F game, both taking over the lead in their respective groups.

Rusea’s beat Frome Technical for the first time since 2021 thanks to a second half goal from Deandre Brown. The ‘Russians’ got the win despite midfielder Alaqa Logan being sent off after he was shown a second yellow card in the game. Meanwhile, Frome saw their perfect start to the competition end at two wins.

Manchester High surged into the lead in Zone F after their win as Belair High’s game against May Day High was not played due to a waterlogged field.

Manchester have now scored 27 goals and are yet to concede any.

In the meantime, St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS), Garvey Maceo and Cedric Titus all lost their perfect win records on Saturday.

Munro College came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against STETHS in their big St Elizabeth derby in Santa Cruz; Kemps Hill High held Garvey Maceo to a 1-1 draw while William Knibb Memorial rebounded from their loss on Wednesday to Ocho Rios High to beat Cedric Titus 3-0 in Martha Brae.

Central High, last year’s beaten finalists, won their first game in style, hammering Porus High 16-0, after back-to-back losses to open the season.

Nathaniel Howe scored four times for Central High and James Gallimore scored three more.

York Castle High also scored in double digits with a 10-0 win over Discovery Bay High with Kemari Hunter scoring three times.

Maggotty High hammered Roger Clarke 8-0 in their game that was shortened to 80 minutes after it was interrupted by lighting and DeCarteret College also scored eight against Cross Keys with Raheem Russell scoring a hat-trick and Tyaine Lambert getting a double.

Ferncourt High and Knockalva Technical, both returning after periods of absence, scored their first wins of the season. Ferncourt outscored Aabuthnott Gallimore High 5-2 while Knockalva beat Black River High 3-1 with goals from Nawayne Bennett, Geovanie Porter and Rojay Brown.

Mannings School were also winners, blanking Grange Hill 3-0 as Kajaye Williams scored a double and Gregory Phillips scored the other.
