Security guard shot, robbed of more than $2 million
A security guard transporting money was robbed, shot and injured by a gunman at the intersection of Fustic Road and Lower Bevin Avenue in Montego Bay, St James, on Tuesday morning.
The 54-year-old guard, who is from the parish, has since been admitted to hospital, the police have reported.
Reports reaching Observer Online are that around 9:00 am, the guard was en route to Scotiabank from a wholesale, with cash lodgment amounting to more than $2.5 million.
Police said the security guard was approached by a man armed with a gun who shot the guard in the right side of his neck and stole the money before escaping on foot in the area.
Residents assisted the guard to the hospital, where he was admitted in a serious but stable condition, the police said.
