Phillip Ramson elected president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) has elected Phillip Ramson as its new president for the 2023-2024 period.
Ramson replaces Michael McMorris.
Ramson is the managing director of Chas E Ramson, which, having been established more than 100 years ago, is one of Jamaica’s longest-standing family enterprises.
That firm has been a member of the JCC for 70 of those years. Laurie Ramson, the late grandfather of the current president, served in the same position between 1962 and 1966.
In his first remarks after assuming the post, Ramson noted the enduring and central role of the JCC in Jamaica’s history and advised that during his term he will be guided by a vision that encapsulates collaboration, innovation and inclusivity.
He argued that these attributes are crucial for the creation and sustainability of a prosperous Jamaica.
The new president will head an executive comprising of first vice-president, Emile Leiba, managing partner of DunnCox Attorneys, second vice-president, Peter Graham, managing director of IGL Jamaica, third vice-president Martha Miller, CEO of National Rums Jamaica, fourth vice-president Jonathan Swire, deputy chairman of Delta Supply Group.
Soan Madden of the JN Group was re-elected to the position of honorary treasurer.
Eight directors were also elected at the Annual General Meeting. They are: Janine Chen (Massy Distribution Group), Jason Clarke (Optimum Trading), Chris Chinapoo (Five Star Quality-), Steven Whittingham (Grace Kennedy Group), David McBean (Mona School of Business), Andre Gooden (Jamaica Stock Exchange), Keith Collister (Appliance Traders Group) and Neesha Rodney (First Global Bank).
