Edwin Allen, Mile Gully and Belair through to d’Cup second round
Former Ben Francis Cup champions Edwin Allen High as well as Mile Gully High and Belair High advanced to the second round of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after wins in their rescheduled games.
Edwin Allen, who were quarter-finalists last season, joined defending champions Clarendon College as the qualifiers from Zone H after beating Lennon High 2-0 on Thursday.
Mile Gully advanced for the first time since the 2018 season when they were a best third-placed team. On Thursday, they got a point from the draw against Knox College, while Belair High made it back-to-back qualification to the second round with a 2-0 win over May Day High.
A total of 19 teams have now qualified for the second round, with most of the 32 spots expected to be filled by this weekend.
The second qualifier from Zone N could be decided on Friday when zone winners Happy Grove High play third-placed Fair Prospect High (four points) in a game.
Happy Grove are still perfect after five games and if they avoid a defeat today, second-placed Port Antonio High (seven points) will advance before they kick a ball against Titchfield High on Saturday.
Western Jamaica-based rivals Rusea’s High (19 points) and Frome Technical (18) will meet at the Frome Sports Complex to decide the winners of Zone B, while Dinthill Technical can wrap up Zone J honours with a win over Enid Bennett High.

On Thursday, Jahleel Blackwood and Captain Kimolar Ferron scored to give Edwin Allen a 2-0 win over Lennon High. Second-placed Edwin Allen improved 18 points.
Clarendon College extended their winning run to seven games, with a 4-1 win over Thompson Town.
Mile Gully ended 2-2 against Knox College, taking their points tally to 19 to wrap up zone honours. The game had been tied at 0-0 when it was suspended last week due to bad weather.
Belair were 2-0 winners over May Day with goals from Christian Henry and Daniel Brown. They pushed their points tally to 24 to take second spot behind Manchester High who were 1-0 winners over deCarteret College. Manchester took their tally to 27 points.
