Police inspector freed of indecent assault charge
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – A police inspector was on Friday found not guilty of indecent assault when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Delroy Ferron, who was represented by King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie and Samoi Campbell, was accused of assaulting a female cop in 2019.
Ferron was arrested and charged in October 2020, following a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Allegations are that on March 27, 2019, Ferron took the complainant to the now disbanded Mobile Reserve compound where he touched her inappropriately and held her down.
In finding Ferron not guilty Senior Parish Court Judge His Honour Broderick Smith, said that the cross examination of the complainant by Champagnie and Campbell brought to light several troubling issues.
The complainant revealed while being cross examined, that after Ferron had held her down and traumatised her, she managed to leave the room only to voluntarily return some minutes later.
The complainant’s version in court also differed significantly from the version she told another police officer.
