Five children among 35 Haitians who landed in Portland on Sunday
PORTLAND, Jamaica — Thirty-five Haitians who landed in Long Bay Portland on Sunday afternoon have been accounted for by the police.
The group includes 27 adult males, three adult females, four female children and one male child.
It is alleged that after they landed some changed their apparel and disappeared. The police were reportedly seen going through the hilly sections of Long Bay in search of the missing Haitians.
This is the third set of Haitians to arrive in Portland since the year and the second set in Long Bay. On September 9, 36 landed in Long Bay and were sent back to Haiti shortly after.
It is believed that some of Sunday’s arrivals were from the September group that were sent back.
Observer Online understands that the remaining Haitians were taken to the Port Antonio Health Centre where a team of medical personnel facilitated screening and processing. A team from the Red Cross was also on hand to give support with clothing, toiletries and food. They are currently being hosted at two police stations in the parish.
