Holland High seek back-to-back wins in ISSA basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Holland High School will be seeking back-to-back wins Wednesday in both age groups of the ISSA rural schoolboy basketball competition when they take on Cornwall College in Zone B in Montego Bay.
Holland High are coming off wins over Christiana High on Monday, beating the Manchester-based school 61-19 in the Under-16 and 44-37 in the Under-18 game.
ISSA, the organisers of the competition, changed the format of the competition for the first time in years, abandoning the three conferences that the rural area schools used to compete in and making it one competition split in two groups of eight teams each.
Belair High, Denbigh High, Glenmuir High, Manchester High, St Elizabeth Technical, Munro College, Garvey Maceo High and Holmwood Technical will contest Zone A.
Herbert Morrison Technical, Cornwall College, Holland High, Christiana High, Knox College, Muschett High, York Castle High and Dinthill Technical will contest Zone B.
The top four in each of the age groups will advance to the quarter-finals.
On Monday, Akeem Gordon scored a double-double, 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with eight steals as Holland High beat Christiana High by 42 points in the Under-16 game.
Khalil Leslie also scored 12 points and had eight rebounds for the Trelawny school that out scored Christiana High 11-6, 27-8 and 49-13 over the first three quarters.
Jahiem Ellis scored 13 points for Christiana High.
Allistan Nelson scored 10 points and Evair Reid-Hines scored eight points to lead Holland High in the senior game while Glen Clarke scored a game high 14 points for Christiana High in a losing effort.
