Three of last season’s semi-finalists sent packing from D’Cup

LLANDILO, Westmoreland — Three of last season’s four semi-finalists were sent crashing out of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after Wednesday’s return-round of matches in the second round.

Beaten finalists Central High, 2021 Ben Francis KO champions Edwin Allen High and back to back semi-finalists Mannings School all failed to qualify for the quarter-finals which are set to start on Saturday.

William Knibb Memorial edged Central High 1-0 in their game played at Glenmuir High; McGrath High knocked out Edwin Allen after winning 3-1 on Wednesday for a 4-1 aggregate while Port Antonio High advanced ahead of Mannings on a tie breaker after they finished tied at 2-2 after Mannings won Wednesday’s game 2-1.

Port Antonio advanced on away goals.

Meanwhile, defending champions Clarendon College led the other qualifiers that included former winners — Dinthill Technical, Garvey Maceo High, Cornwall College and Frome Technical, as well as Mile Gully High, Happy Grove, Tacky High, William Knibb Memorial, Manchester High and Christiana High.

Kaheim Dixon, Christopher Hull, Kino Jennings and Oshane Henry scored for Clarendon College in their 4-1 win over deCarteret College on Wednesday for a 12-1 aggregate.

Garvey Maceo, who were led by four goals from Jelani Williams, scored a big 9-0 win over St Mary High for a 16-0 aggregate as Cleo Clarke scored two, Everald Swaby, Conroy Williams and Delano Thompson all got one each.

Dinthill Technical beat Horace Clarke 7-0 on Wednesday for a 9-0 aggregate with Tyrese Gowe scoring a hat trick, Giovanni Afflick scored two with Rodaine Reid and Malyke McKenzie getting one each.

Despite losing their first game of the season, going down 1-0 to Black River High at Jarrett Park, Cornwall College advanced 3-2 on aggregate after winning the first leg 3-1 on Saturday at St Elizabeth Technical.

Jamien Williams scored Black River’s goal in the 49th minute as they ended their season.

Manchester High advanced ahead of Munro College as they won 2-1 on Wednesday after wining the first game 1-0.

Munro College levelled the scores on aggregate when they took the lead but Manchester High rallied to score two goals and advanced.

Frome Tech 4, Vere Tech-0 (8-1)

Mannings School 2, Port Antonio High-1 (2-2) Port Antonio advance

Manchester High 2, Munro College 1 (3-1)

Rusea’s High 0, Christiana High 0 (0-3)
