G Cole releases ‘She Said’, eyes Latin market

An admirer of versatile artistes, G Cole has followed the path of his heroes and experimented with diverse sounds. Which is what he continues to do on She Said, his new song, which is a blend of lovers rock reggae and Latin.

Produced by Ed Robinson, Ryan Smith and Loc Frequency, it was released in early October. She Said’s Latin flavour is deliberate, as the South Florida-based singer has his eyes on a region that has also embraced Jamaican music.

“I just returned from Costa Rica and was introduced to their music scene and plan on doing some work there too. So, yes, (I’m) definitely looking at the Latin market,” said G Cole.

She Said is the latest song from his third album, scheduled for release in March 2024. The previous single released was Peace of Mind Is a Holiday.

G Cole’s vocal style is strongly influenced by Dennis Brown, whom he rates as reggae’s greatest singer. But the work that most inspired his music is Songs in The Key of Life, Stevie Wonder’s outstanding 1976 album which he has listened to countless times.

Although most of his work — which includes the albums This Music Volume 1 — Return to Vintage and Ocho Rios — is dominated by reggae, he believes no artiste should limit their sound.

“It is very important to spread your wings musically. We grow up in Jamaica, influenced by so many genres, so the appreciation for all genres is innate whether as an artiste or as a listener,” said G Cole.

– Howard Campbell
