Upon approaching the entrance to the Mas Camp on Saturday night, the smell of jerk chicken greeted patrons who came out for a night of non-stop dancing at Wray & Nephew White Rum Yesterday Best of the 90s retro party.

Rambo, who has been a constant fixture at this event, was turning over the chicken in his jerk pan while serving customers who queued in a line waiting to be served.

“Is a good while now mi a sell at this party yuh nuh. Bout 10 years now and the people dem always supportive,” Rambo shared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.

Once you got on the inside, all your troubles and worries were dismissed. Patrons danced up a storm to hit songs from various genres that defined the 1990s – a decade that many partygoers agree was one of the best musically.

It was an uphill task making your way around the general area, due to the massive turnout of patrons. The VIP area was no different as several well-known personalities from the sporting, corporate and entertainment arenas let loose for a few hours while soaking up the fun.

DJs Marvin, Kurt Riley and Nicco did not disappoint. With a high-powered line-up like this, there was not a dull moment as the DJs dug deep into their musical arsenal to unleash R&B, hip hop, soca, gospel, dancehall, reggae, and house music from the 1990s. Not to be left out, a few ska, mento, rocksteady, and rock and roll hits were thrown in for good measure.

One of the highlights of the event was a dancehall segment which saw Kurt Riley unleashing several dance hits including Elephant Man’s Get On Up, Voice Mail’s Do What You Feel Like, Elephant Man’s Crazy Hype and Mr Vegas and Ovamars hit song Raging Bull.

DJ Kurt Riley, who is dubbed the ‘Party Animal’, commented on the night’s proceedings.

“I think it was one of the best Yesterday Best of the 90s that I have been to. Is a long time mi nuh see people nuh waa go dem yard. People came out to hear fabulous music and have a good time,” said Riley.

He reasoned, “The DJs stayed as close to the theme as possible. It nice man. The DJs came and explored music and genres.”

DJ Nicco said the vibe at the event was nothing short of being perfect.

“The people came out to party and they did just that. My DJ brothers and I gave the patrons everything they wanted musically throughout the night. The vibe was nothing short of perfect,” DJ Nicco shared.

Gyete Ghartey, promoter of Yesterday Best of the 90s, was quite upbeat when the Observer spoke to him after the event.

“The three DJs did exceptionally well. A lot of work went into putting this event together, and believe me, this is the best Yesterday so far,” said Ghartey.

The event came to an end minutes after 3:00 am.

“The party shot. The next one naw miss mi,” a patron who identified herself as Nicole from Portmore shouted as she made her way out of the venue.

Among those seen at the event having a great time were producers Andre “Sukku” Gray and Frankie Music, singer Fahrenheit, producer and engineer News of Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock Productions, disc jock DJ Kevy, Voice Mail member Kevyn Blair and Member of Parliament and state minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Alando Terrelonge.
