UB40 Greatest Hits continues to hold firm

AFTER 267 non-consecutive weeks, Greatest Hits, a 21-song retrospective by British reggae band UB40, continues to dominate the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. On this week’s chart Greatest Hits inches up from number five to number four. The highest that the set has climbed was in 2008 when it spent 10 weeks in the number one spot.

Released by Virgin Records in September 2008, Greatest Hits features songs culled from 11 of the act’s studio albums and the compilation UB40 The Best of :Volume Two.

Among the tracks featured are the chart-toppers Can’t Help Falling in Love, Red Red Wine, Here I Come (Come and Take Me) and The Way You Do (The Things You Do). Also featured are covers of Jamaican classics including Come Back Darling (Johnny Osbourne) and Cherry Oh Baby (Eric Donaldson).

Still on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers continue to lead the pack with Legend on top for 198 non-consecutive weeks.

Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy remains at number two, while Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul is at number three.Wisdom and Set in Stone by Stick Figure are five and six while Dutty Rock by Sean Paul is number seven.

World on Fire by Stick Figure holds steady at number eight, No Love by Byron Messia is number nine, and Damian Marley’s Welcome to Jamrock is number 10. Talibans II by Burna Boy and Byron Messia dips on the Nigeria Hot 100 chart as it steps down from number 72 to number 88. Meanwhile on the US Afrobeats Songs chart, Talibans II is number seven for a second week.

The original version of Talibans by Byron Messia crashes from number 22 to number 30 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 while on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay it fares better, stepping up from number 13 to number 11.

On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Talibans is stuck at number 16, while on Rap Airplay the song is number eight.

Wind Me Up, the collaboration between reggae artiste Anthony B and Dante Bowe, inches up from number 18 to 17 on the Adult R&B Airplay.

Moving now to the New York Reggae chart, I’m the One by Kenya Morris takes over the number one spot. No Obeah Man by De Flame, with Beenie Man, bolts from number six to four.

Four new entries arrive on this week’s tally. Starlight by Naomi Cowan arrives at number 25, Niceness by Marcia Griffiths is number 26, Waiting on You by Khalia is number 28, and Brutal by Mykal Roze is number 30.

Over on the South Florida Reggae chart, This Man of Mine by Marcia J Ball is on top for a second week while Look a Girl by Stephen and Chino McGregor glides from number 14 to number 10.

Tell Me by Mary Isaccs (number 23) and Bad Boy Johnny by Tony Roy (number 25) are this week’s new entries.
