Organisers pass on domino finals, matchups rescheduled
After winning their respective semi-final games on Wednesday, Red Hills Road Domino Club and Dilston All-Stars were scheduled to square off in the grand championship match of the 2023 Winners Domino League in what should be an exciting clash, but that game was postponed.
Both the Rally Cup and the Winners Domino League finals that were to have been played on Friday were pushed back until next week due to unstable weather.
Red Hills Road and Dilston All-Stars are likely to engage in an interesting matchup because both teams have performed admirably throughout the competition.
Red Hills Road defeated Temple Domino Club easily, 150-138, to go to the finals, and in a thrilling match, Dilston All-Stars defeated Olympic Domino Club, the reigning champions, 150-148. The Mystix Sports Bar and Lounge on Hagley Park Road served as the venue for both games.
The Red Hills Road squad had a strong start, controlling the game from the off and maintaining their lead to Temple 78-69 at the half. Red Hills Road maintained their poise to the end, winning the game by a final score of 12 points, despite Temple’s best efforts to gain some momentum from the restart.
However, because neither side was giving anything away in the closing minutes of the game, the match between Dilston All-Star and Olympic was more competitive.
Olympic got out to a slow start in the game and trailed the Dilston All-Stars 67-75 at the half. Olympic put on a show and matched their opponents point-for-point for the duration of the half, even though the Dilston All-Stars had the upper hand at restart. The Dilston All-Stars crossed the finish line with just two points because they maintained their composure.
It is quite tough to choose a clear winner based on their semi-final performance. But with their genuine fighting spirit, tenacity, and will, the Dilston All-Stars may have the advantage.
