Flanker, Granville meet in first-round game of Sandals Major League
FLANKER, St James — Flanker FC and Granville United will meet today in a repeat of last season’s semi-finals in their St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League first-round game at Flanker, set to kick off at 3:30 pm.
Flanker FC, the beaten finalists last season, dominated Granville United, winning all four games against them and will hope to extend their winning run against the former champions today.
Two other games are scheduled for today, Montego Bay Boys Club and Lilliput Rovers will open their seasons when they square off at the UDC field while Irwin United and Cambridge FC will meet at Irwin High.
Meanwhile, the game between Heights FC and Wadada United that was originally scheduled for Saturday will now be played on Monday at the UDC field.
Flanker FC had drawn 1-1 against Green Pond SC in their opening game last week while Granville United were beaten at home by Heights FC and both will hope to get their first win today.
Prior to winning both legs of their semi-final games, Flanker FC had beaten Granville United 3-1 and were later awarded points for their second-round game.
Cambridge United, another semi-finalists from last season, will hope to start with a win against the schoolboys of Irwin United who were beaten 5-2 by defending champions Reggae Youths last week.
After just missing the semi-finals by a single point last year, Lilliput Rovers will face a Boys Club team that lost all 12 games last time out and conceded 58 goals in the process.
