ANNOTTO BAY, St Mary — Nalia Dennis will have to wait until next month for the continuation of the court case against an ex-lover who allegedly stabbed her more than 30 times and left her to die.

Kurt “Garth” Griffiths appeared before the Annotto Bay Parish Court on Tuesday, but his case was put off until December 12. A large crowd gathered outside the court house, and those converged were just as eager as Dennis to hear the latest update. Griffiths, who is represented by attorney Derrick Thompson, is accused of stabbing his former lover in a jealous rage in November 2021.

It has been a long wait for Dennis, who spent months after the attack fearful that Griffiths would return and kill her. She was visibly relieved when he was denied bail on his first court appearance in September.

When she spoke with the Jamaica Observer last May, Dennis described the damage done to her body during the vicious attack that left her in a crumpled, blood-drenched heap in front of her aunt’s shop. It all began, she said, when her ex-lover came to her yard to have a conversation about their child. After seeing her talking with a friend, Dennis said he used a knife to stab her repeatedly. She remained outside all night until relatives found her the next day.

She lost her left eye, hearing in her left ear, and sense of smell in her left nostril. Her left hand and leg were also affected.
