KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Football Federation says Concacaf is currently making assessments to the pitch at the National Stadium to determine whether or not it is fit for play.

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz were set to face Canada in a match that was set to kick-off at 7:00 pm.

Heavy rainfall associated with a tropical cyclone currently affecting the island has, however, caused delays.

In a series of tweets on Friday evening the JFF said the match will not start at the scheduled 7:00 pm. Officials are now hoping for a 9 pm kick-off. If the pitch is determined to be unfit for play even at that time, Observer Online understands that the match will be rescheduled for Saturday morning.

The Reggae Boyz will have a 14-game unbeaten run in the Concacaf Nations League to protect when they face Canada in their quarter-final match-up.

Jamaica advanced to this stage with wins over Honduras, and Grenada, and a win and draw over Haiti, while Canada received a bye to this stage based on their rating in Concacaf. Although Jamaica has never lost to Canada as a host, they must not pay much attention to that fact as their opponent has a squad considered by many to be its golden generation of players, especially after competing creditably at the FIFA World Cup a year ago.
