DaCosta says Digital One has bright future in horse racing
Jason DaCosta, trainer of the impressive two-year-old filly imported Digital One, believes that his young horse has a very bright future in local racing once she remains sound.
Digital One, who is owned by Don Wehby, produced a very impressive performance in the Mr Sensational Trophy, to win the seven-furlong race by eight lengths in an impressive time of 1:26.3 at Caymanas Park on Saturday, November 25.
The strongly built filly, who recorded splits of 23.2, 46.2, and 1:12.3, was well ridden to victory by leading jockey Reyan Lewis.
Stablemate Fastnfuriouslinks, ridden by Javaniel Patterson, finished second, while third place went to Run Julie Run, ridden by Omar Walker, from the stable of Ian Parsard.
Digital One was registering her third-straight career victory from as many starts.
DaCosta said he was happy with his filly performance because she did an excellent job over the distance for a young horse.
“It was a good performance from her because 1:26.3 is a good time. It looked like she did idle a little bit for a furlong, but once that horse came up inside of her, she kicked into gear again and so it was an excellent performance from her,” said DaCosta.
“Fingers crossed and she keeps sound and healthy and continues to improve and by the looks of it she looks like an A-class horse in the making for us,” he said. “I think that once she continues to improve then we can expect big things from her next year,” DaCosta added.
Wehby was also very chilled with Digital One‘s performance in the event.
“I thought her performance was excellent because we obviously have a good horse,” said Wehby. “She is still a baby, but to be honest, I got a little nervous at the furlong pole. However, the trainer said to me that she was idling because she really wanted a big race. As soon as the other horse came close to her, she pulled off and won by a wide margin,” he explained.
“What I am also very happy about is the time that she won the race in. I think 1:26.3 for a two-year-old filly on what is a relatively slow racetrack is a good performance, and so I am happy,” Wehby added.
