Dear Editor,

I really am glad the Reggae Girlz did not win that match against Panama on Wednesday. Had they lost I would have been even happier, but such is life.

If this current batch of second-string girls had won Wednesday last or wins the upcoming match against Guatemala it would have been a travesty of justice. What will happen is what has always happened, that is, one set of girls does all the dirty work and brings the thing to a point only to see another set of girls, most of whom don’t even know what cerasee is, waltz in and displace them and get all the fame, glory, and money.

I used to be one of the biggest supporters of the Reggae Girlz, but not anymore. I hopped off of that train a while back. No one can convince me to support a group that sticks up the country for money and deserts the national team in its time of greatest need.

They don’t even understand and appreciate the fact that representing the country on the world stage far outweighs any amount of money the Jamaica Football Federation could ever pay them. Playing for their country puts them out there for all the world to see and significantly multiplies their chances of signing lucrative football contracts later on.

I would like to humbly suggest that the country go forward, come what may, with this current batch who deserves our support for their loyalty. Let the deserters stay right where they are.
