ROYAL RELEASE

Popcaan, Lila Ike, Chronic Law, Spice, and Dexta Daps are among the big names who appear on Generation of Kings, Masicka’s debut album for Def Jam Recordings.

Released December 1, 2023, the album has 16 tracks.

It is the follow-up to Masicka’s 2021 album 438, which debuted and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

Generation of Kings illuminates every facet of this dancehall heavyweight. From the jump, he flexes his dynamic range on the intense opener, Black Sheep. Marking their second collaboration in momentous fashion, he re-teams with Popcaan for the striking and stunning Stars R Us.

Other acts who appear on the project are Fridayy, and Fave.

Queen of the dancehall Spice is featured on WOW, while Fridayy tag teams on Wet.

A delicate drip soaks the beat on Waterfall, where he turns up with one final powerhouse performance to cap off the trip.

Limelight, the current chart-topper, has placed Masicka back on active chart duty. It was preceded by the summer hit Tyrant, both of which are included on Generation of Kings.

Limelight has already amassed 177,000 Spotify streams and counting in addition to 2.4 million YouTube views on the music video.

Masicka received a YouTube Award for attracting over 1 million subscribers to his channel and over 580 million views. Meanwhile, his most recent independent LP, 438, became “Jamaica’s #1 album of 2022 on Spotify” and “the first project to spend an entire year in the Top 10 on Apple Music Jamaica”. He also emerged as “one of three Jamaican artists in Spotify Wrapped Jamaica for a Top 10 Album”.

Other tracks featured on Generation of Kings are Reverse Time, March On (featuring Dexta Daps), Triumph (with Chronic Law and Lila Ike), Angels Don’t Cry, Most Wanted, Carbon, Rainfall and District 1 (Rifle).

Born in Portmore, St Catherine, Masicka is known for his impactful lyrics and energetic performances. With his unique style and energetic stage presence, Masicka has risen to become one of the most celebrated names in the dancehall scene.

Masicka’s lyrical content often revolves around the realities of life in the inner cities. His songs reflect the struggles, violence, and social issues faced by many marginalised youth, but he also brings an element of hope, resilience, and his admiration for women to his music. Through clever wordplay and thought-provoking lyrics, Masicka captures the attention and respect of his listeners.

Masicka has captivated audiences worldwide with his distinctive style and has garnered a dedicated fan base with chart-topping hits including They Don’t Know, Top Form, Pieces (with Jahshii) and Leader (with Dexta Daps).
