New homeowner revels in $500K home makeover prize from Visa and NCB

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Even though his dream wedding was always on the horizon, Adrian Wellington shifted focus for a moment when the opportunity to purchase a property presented itself this year.

Taking the plunge, the accounting professional invested in securing a property for his future plans.

Like many new home investments, the daunting prospect of furnishing his new home came up next, and Wellington started doing the maths around acquiring the major appliances for his new abode. But, when Wellington received a call from National Commercial Bank (NCB) advising him that he was the winner of a J$500,000 prize in Visa and NCB’s Take Style Out promotion, he said – “Who could it be but God!”

The promotion, which ran from October 20-29, gave NCB Visa credit card customers a chance to win either a luxury vacation or home makeover valued at J$500,000 each time they made a purchase of $20,000 or more using their NCB Visa credit card.

According to the bank, it gave its Visa credit card customers access to this promotion as part of its sponsorship of Jamaica Observer’s annual retail event, Take Style Out.

“I am very excited about starting this new chapter of my life,” stated Wellington. “But I quickly realised that huge investment required careful planning. I knew I wanted to get furniture and some of the major appliances for the kitchen and so on, but I hadn’t quite figured out that part as yet.”

Adrian Wellington (center) winner of the J$500,000 prize in the Visa and NCB Take Style Out Credit Card Home Make Over promotion toasts with (L-R) Joseph Montaque, Marketing Manager – Payments Services, Treasury & Corporate Banking Divisions, Michelle Thomas, Product & Portfolio Manager, Payments Services Division, Beverley Clarke, Display Sales Executive at Jamaica Observer and NCB’s Melanie Smithson, Product and Portfolio Officer, Payment Services Division.

After being offered the choice between a luxury getaway or a home makeover valued at J$500,000, it was a natural selection for Wellington at that point.

“When I got the call from NCB, I couldn’t believe the blessing! It was a no-brainer for me to choose the home makeover, because of my current priorities. I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity to turn this house into a warm and inviting home, and I couldn’t be more thankful to NCB for this home makeover prize,” an overjoyed Wellington said.

While winning this prize might seem like a stroke of luck to many, Wellington emphasises that using his credit card is a deliberate and strategic financial choice. He relies on it for all major purchases to capitalise on valuable perks like cashback, and other benefits offered by his NCB Visa credit card.

“With my background in accounting, I’ve learned the importance of making informed financial decisions, and my NCB Visa card has been a very valuable tool in that regard,” Wellington shared. “The cashback rewards on essentials like gas, groceries, and utility bills have been a welcome perk. But using the card responsibly has been the key to being able to really enjoy those benefits.”

Payments and Portfolio Manager, Issuing, at NCB, Michelle Thomas said, “Congratulations to Adrian on his exciting journey of homeownership. Being a part of this special moment in his life is truly heartwarming and we’re so happy that what we do at NCB helps to add value and unlock his dreams. We wish him all the best as he creates a warm and inviting home and I hope that his future is filled with love, happiness, and financial success.”

With Christmas fast approaching, Wellington is clear about his next steps – a brand new refrigerator and stove for his kitchen, purchased with his NCB Visa credit card. Then the cashback from that purchase and others will of course go towards other furniture and décor pieces.
