Coaches let down by missed chances as Cavalier, Tivoli end 1-1
Cavalier SC and Tivoli Gardens played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in their Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) game, which unfolded as an affair of missed opportunities and late drama at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Thursday .
Barrington Pryce gave Tivoli the lead in the 42nd minute before substitute Orlando Russell netted the equaliser for Cavalier in the 90th minute.
Cavalier Coach Rudolph Speid met the result and performance with mixed feelings.
“We are just struggling at the moment because we are creating a lot of opportunities, but can’t convert them.We are also conceding some goals that we should not be conceding, but credit to my players because we were able to come back and get a draw in this match,” he said.
“We are feeling a little better with the draw, although we could have done a lot better, and I am hoping that we will get better soon,” Speid added.
Tivoli Coach Jerome Waite had similar concerns at game’s end.
“We are disappointed because one of the things that these players have to understand is to follow instructions, maintain their concentration, and keep their shape,” he said.
Tivoli created a number of clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes of the first half, but faulty shooting from their attackers let them down. They were finally rewarded when Pryce ran by two defenders to fire home past Cavalier custodian Jeadine White three minutes before half-time.
However, Cavalier outplayed their opponents in the second period and created numerous scoring opportunities. The live-wire Russell caught the Tivoli defenders off guard when he arrived in the centre of the 18-yard box to tap home a cross from Jaheem Frazer.
