Quick double for Jon P

Quick double for Jon P

Six-year-old bay gelding Jon P completed a quick double within two weeks for owner Mark Perry and trainer Colin Ferguson in a three-year-old and up optional Claiming ($400,000-$300,000) event over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight on Saturday, December 30, 2023.

Ridden by Christopher Mamdeen in a race that included five-year-olds and up (non-winners of four), Jon P matched strides with Chitu Prince (Oshane Nugent), Thalos (Raddesh Roman), and Lord Burkington (Javaniel Patterson) in the early exchanges.

Crossing the dummy rails for the last two furlongs (400m) of the race, Jon P emerged as the lone leader, and the Casual Trick – Twinkling Rose offspring kept up his work to the wire.

Jon P won by 4 ¾ lengths ahead of T Brady (Romario Spencer) and Thalos in a time of 1:00.0 (23.0 x 46.0).

It was Ferguson’s sixth win from 66 starts in the 2023 racing season.
