ATV driver reportedly held with illegal gun after attempting to elude cops
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – A man driving an ATV was arrested after allegedly attempting to escape from a police stop and was found in possession of an illegal firearm.
The man, whose name the police have declined to release as he has not been charged, was held after he encountered police, who were on surveillance duties on March Pen Road in St Catherine.
Information reaching Observer Online indicate that around 12:30 pm, the St Catherine North Proactive Investigation Unit (PIU) went on surveillance and enquiries within the March Pen community.
Upon reaching a residence, the suspect was observed driving a yellow and black Yamaha four-wheel ATV motorcycle without a registration plate and carrying a bag around his neck.
He was signaled to stop by the police but reportedly disobeyed, resulting in a collision with the front section of a service vehicle, causing the ATV to overturn.
The suspect was accosted, and during a search, a Smith and Wesson .40 pistol with a magazine containing five 40-caliber cartridges was reportedly discovered in the bag.
The man was taken into custody at the Spanish Town Police Station.
