More than 1,000 Jamaicans set to ‘Work It Out’ with NHF
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Over one thousand Jamaicans have registered for the National Health Fund’s (NHF) 20th Anniversary Work It Out Wellness Challenge.
According to a release on Friday, the challenge is officially scheduled to begin on February 10 and 11 with the kick off and initial wellness checks at Cornwall College, Manchester and Ocho Rios High schools.
Chief Executive Officer, at the NHF, Everton Anderson says the fund is pleased that so many residents have come on board.
“We are delighted that Jamaican residents are eager to embrace holistic health, recognising its profound impact on well-being. Our commitment to fostering a healthier nation can only be effective if persons acknowledge the importance of adapting healthier lifestyle practices that can prevent chronic diseases. We congratulate the registrants for taking this very important step. It is our hope that they can make a difference in their own lives and the lives of their family members,” he said.
From 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, participants will be assessed for body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, HbA1C, blood pressure and blood cholesterol to determine starting points. There will also be a workout session, dance fitness and one-on-one counseling with nutritionists and psychologists.
For eight weeks, participants will have direct access to fitness coaches leading them in weekly circuits inclusive of a boot camp, with the main ambassador being Kamila McDonald. There will also be a number of nutrition sessions and mental health consultations.
The top male, female and team will receive prizes such as Fitbits, gym memberships, cooking class memberships, and spa certificates, and will be awarded based on participation and engagement.
The launch and wellness checks for the South-Eastern Region will be February 17 at George’s College in Kingston and February 18 at the Waterford High School in Portmore, St Catherine.
