Three-year-old American-bred bay filly She’s A Godgift made an excellent start on local soil on Saturday, February 3, 2024, handily defeating opponents churning down the five-straight (1,000-metre) course.

Bred by Wildcat Red out of Ghostly Direction, She’s A Godgift won a native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maidens) by 4 ½ lengths in a time of 59.4 (23.0 x 47.0).

She’s A Godgift, ridden by Tevin Foster for owner Suzette Williams and trainer Leroy Tomlinson, had a even start, racing in second place behind Cryptogirl (Omar Walker) in the early stages of the race. Even when Comehometome (Jerome Innis) joined the group, crossing the false rails, She’s A Godgift maintained her gallop well.

When Foster instructed She’s A Godgift to go inside the final furlong (200m), the horse switched gears and powered home to easily beat Comehometome and Riches to Rags (Dane Dawkins).

Tomlinson expressed satisfaction with his charge’s performance and predicted that She’s A Godgift will improve with time.

“Well, I had this horse for over a year and a half, as I got her in September 2022. I was training this horse, and the owner and I had a fallout, and he decided that he was going to sell the horse, so I got this lady, Suzette Williams, to buy her.
She’s A Godgift is a nice little horse. I love her so much,” Tomlinson told the
Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.

“She has shown promise in her gallops, and so I had expected her to run a very good race. Five furlongs straight wasn’t her preferred distance, as I believe she likes the round course more. This race was the one that came up, and she was ready, so I gave her the run here. She won, and I gave thanks for that.

“She was supposed to run last year, but things were not right with her, so we gave her the time off and brought her here. We will see how she comes out of the race before we plan her future. I did expect a better final time, but 59 seconds was good for a first-timer,” he further stated.
