Racing, Tru-Juice rebound in JFF Championship

Leaders Racing United and Tru-Juice rebounded from losses in the Jamaica Football Federation Championship with contrasting home wins over Baptist Alliance and Reno FC, respectively, last weekend.

Raheem Edwards’ double at Spanish Town Prison Oval carried Racing United to a big 5-1 win, while Tru-Juice got the better of Reno FC 2-0 at the Bramwell Clarke Complex.

Racing United maintained their lead with 25 points from 10 games, four more than Tru-Juice FC, who regained second spot. Chapleton Maroons climbed to third place with 20 points, one more than Baptist Alliance, who fell two places with their first loss in four outings.

Okello Valentine got Racing started when he scored in the 27th minute, but Stephen Campbell scored his sixth goal in the 48th to pull Baptist Alliance level.

Mikyle Williams restored Racing’s lead in the 58th minute, while Edwards, who came off the bench in the 67th minute, scored his first two minutes later. Diamond Clarke scored his team’s fourth goal in the 70th minute, and Edwards added his second in the 76th.

Tru-Juice, who were coming off a heavy 1-4 loss in their previous game, were gifted the lead in the 58th minute when Reno FC conceded an own goal before Conaie Rose scored in the 73rd minute to secure the points.

Chapleton Maroons, in claiming their fourth win in the last five games, got first-half goals from Leaunghn Williams, in the 14th minute, and Osani Ricketts (36th) to beat Portlanders FC who are winless in their last eight games.

Brown’s Town snapped a three-game winless skid to beat Gray’s Inn 2-1 at Drax Hall. Brown’s Town were off to a good start when Nathon Robinson gave them the lead in the fourth minute.

Kevar Levy equalised for Gray’s Inn in the 11th minute, but Jahmarie Nolan scored the winner for the St Ann-based club in the 84th minute.

Former champions Faulkland FC scored back-to-back victories for the first time this season, ending Meadforest FC’s three-game winning run, beating them 2-0 at Wespow Park.

Shanoy Anderson scored in the 42nd minute for Faulkland FC and Chad Howell added a second in the 58th minute as the St James-based club rose to eighth place in the tables on 14 points. They are still five off the semi-final spots.

Falmouth United scored a rare win, blanking Hopewell United 3-0 at Orchard Sports Complex, taking the lead after just two minutes through an own goal, before Denzil McKenzie scored in the 48th and D’Juan Broadie in the 57th.

Petersfield FC came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with St Bess United in their game played in Petersfield. Orain Titus had given the visitors the lead in the 60th minute before Shewayne Barton equalised in the 76th.
