Shayy Soprano is ‘El Numero Uno’

Brooklyn-raised dancehall artiste Shayy Soprano is a big fan of telenovellas. That fandom serves as the inspiration behind her latest single, El Numero Uno.

“El Numero Uno means number one in Spanish and this song is all about being number one. My inspiration behind it is the Telenovela El Señor De Los Cielos series which follows the life of Aurelio Casillas and Mónica Robles, his ride or die and an independent bad gyal,” Shayy Soprano, whose real name is Shauna McCrea, said.

“I love Monica, which is why I said in the song ‘Mi Badda Then Monica Mi Badda Then Aurelio, El Numero Uno Shayy Soprano The El Numero Uno BAD GYAL’!!”

The vivacious singjay released the new single and video in February via all download platforms. The response has been incredible so far.

“So far everyone is pleased with the song and with my producers Sly Dunbar, Lenky Marsden and Rorey Baker. They did an amazing job building the riddim around my lyrics and my videographer Yolkis Cabrera who brought my vision to life with him being a Latino videographer, he knew how to execute my vision,” she said.

Born in New York to Jamaican parents, she maintained a cultural link with Jamaica through numerous visits.

Shayy Soprano holds a Bachelors Degree in Music and Business Administration from York College and an Associate Degree in Theatre from Laguardia Community College.

She launched her recording career in 2021 and she has been honing her craft since that time. The spunky singer is confident that her career will soon skyrocket and she is eyeing shows in Jamaica, and stateside.

“Right now I’m looking forward to Sumfest and I’m going to be going back in the lab with Rorey Baker so we have hits coming your way and eventually an EP,” she said.
