#VoxPop: Gaza residents anticipate Vybz Kartel’s freedom
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – In anticipation of the UK-Privy Council’s ruling for the appeal of the murder conviction of Dancehall icon Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer and his three co-accused, Observer Online visited the artiste’s community – the famed ‘Gaza’ in Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine on Thursday.
Palmer, fellow dancehall artiste Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, were sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, after a 64-day trial in 2014.
They have since mounted appeals to the Court of Appeal and now the Privy Council. The ruling of the Privy Council is expected to be revealed on Thursday.
When residents in the community were asked by our reporter whether or not they believe the deejay will be freed of the murder conviction, there was a resounding “yes!” With everyone saying “Free Worl Boss!”
