Wolmer’s Girls and Kingston College (KC) continued to make their presence felt at the ongoing Inter-Secondary School Association (ISSA)/Jamaica Hockey Federation Under-19 High School Hockey League with exciting victories on Tuesday.

Wolmer’s Girls defeated St Hugh’s 4-0, while KC edged Wolmer’s Boys’ 1-0 in their match. Both games were played at the Mona Hockey Field.

From the opening whistle, Wolmer’s Girls displayed unyielding intensity, applying relentless pressure on the St Hugh’s High defence. In the 14th minute, Sarah Stupart unleashed a powerful shot toward the St Hugh’s High goal, only to see her effort blocked by the goalkeeper.

However, Kamili Whitley was quick to pounce on the rebound, slotting home the opening goal of the game. Undeterred, Wolmer’s Girls continued to press forward, and Stupart, who had earlier missed two opportunities, got on the score sheet in the 18th minute when she found the back of the net, doubling Wolmer’s Girls’ lead at 2-0 for the first half.

The second half saw no respite for St Hugh’s High as Wolmer’s Girls continued to dictate the pace of the game. Adrienne Williams had numerous opportunities to find the back of the net but was thwarted by St Hugh’s High’s defence. In the 38th minute, Kamili Whitley’s precise pass found Stupart, who netted her second goal of the day with precision. Then, in the 40th minute, Tabitha Barracks capitalised on a rebound off St Hugh’s High’s defence, sealing Wolmer’s Girls’ victory with a well-taken shot. As the final whistle went, Wolmer’s Girls celebrated a commanding 4-0 triumph over St Hugh’s High, further solidifying their position as contenders for the title.

In the boys’ section, Wolmer’s Boys’ and KC started the match firing on all cylinders as numerous shots were taken at goal by both teams. Shamari Burrell made an early attempt at goal in the 8th minute but failed to put Wolmer’s Boys’ in front, setting the tone for an intense battle on the field.

The first half saw Wolmer’s Boys’ earn a short corner, with Dimetri Lee making a precise pass. Unfortunately, the ball’s pace was too slow to reach the top of the defence, denying them a crucial scoring opportunity. Despite KC having several chances, their efforts failed to find the back of the net as well.

As the game progressed, Wolmer’s Boys’ Deshane Morrissey created a penalty corner, only to have it intercepted by KC, who cleared the ball from their defensive area. Saheid Baker of KC generated multiple penalty opportunities, showcasing their offensive capabilities, but they struggled to convert them into goals.

Nathaniel Duffus, with seven occasions at goal, became a prominent figure in KC’s offensive efforts. However, he faced relentless resistance from the Wolmer’s Boys’ goalkeeper. In a dramatic turn of events, Adhugo Thomas passed the ball to Duffus, whose shot was blocked by the Wolmer’s Boys’ goalkeeper. The rebound found its way to Gawayne Mitchell, who scored in the 35th minute, giving KC a 1-0 win.
