Mamma Mia to lead the way in Henry W Jaghai OD JP Trophy feature

The $1.25-million Henry W Jaghai OD JP Trophy, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 6 furlongs (1,200m), is the main attraction on tomorrow’s 10 race card.

The race has attracted a field of 14 runners including the Jason DaCosta’s
Mamma Mia, winner of last year’s 1000 Guineas and Jamaica Oaks Classic races.

The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning this race.

1. RHYTHM BUZZ (4 b c by Buzz Nightmare – River Rhythm) – Was a winner over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on January 21, beating
Sonny T and Chippy and
Babylike by a length in 1:34.3.
Rhythm Buzz can sprint these, evidence of his second-place finish behind
Yellowstone over the straight (1,000m) on January 6. The Vincent Atkinson trainee should run well here.

2. RANI BANGALA : (5 b m by Savoy Stomp – Palace Gold) – Should run well without actually winning.

3. VOLATILITY : (4 b f by Hedge Fund – Fashionista) – Is going to be left behind in this one.

4.ULTIMATE MACHINE: (5 ch h by Nuclear Wayne – Away) – Has no form to recommend.

5. KP CHOICE: (5 b h by Nasheet – Drop Them) – Comes into this race on the back of three consecutive wins.
KP Choice is going to find the going tough here and his winning streak is expected to be broken.

6. WALL STREET TRADER (USA): (5 dkb/br g by Vancouver – Selva ) – American-bred runner who makes his debut here.
Wall Street Trader, who is highly thought of at his stables, has trained well for his first run on local soil and so he should be kept on the ride side here.

7. TAURUS BOY (USA): (6 b h by Speightser – MC Duffie) – Saves his best for the straight but is capable enough to go home with a share of the spoils here.

8. MAMMA MIA: (4 ch f by Soul Warrior – Princess Geeta) – Without a doubt, on paper she is the horse to beat.
Mamma Mia was expected to win when stepping down at this level on February 25 but she finished third behind dead-heated winners Atlantic Convoy and Further and Beyond over 7 furlongs.
Mamma Mia led the race for a long way and now with the trip reduced, she may now go all the way.

9. TEKAPUNT: (5 b g by Northern Giant – Just A Flutter) – Returning from a three-month break.
Tekapunt is going to need the run.

10. BRIDAL BLUSH: (6 b m by Sensational Slam – Janiboutice) – Has no realistic chance of winning this one.

11. LABAN: (7 b h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Has been running some fair races without finding the winners’ enclosure.
Laban, based on his consistency, should again do well.

12. BIG BIG DADDY (7 dkb h by Natural Selection – Just A Flutter) – Should be best alone.

13. POWER: (5 ch h by Bal A Bali – Swift Fox) – Has done nothing in his two starts this season so far.
Power is not expected to impact on the his race.

14. MONEY MONSTER: (7 b g by Casual Trick – She’s Traditional) – Has had two runs this season so far without any success.
Money Monster should be fit and ready now to deliver a strong performance here and so a good run is expected from him.
