#Champs2024: Excelsior eyeing one-two finish in Class 1 girls’ shot put
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Excelsior High’s Kahllah Bailey and Altonique James were the only two athletes to throw over the qualifying mark of 13.00m to advance to the final of the Class 1 girls’ shot put at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships.
Bailey threw a best mark of 13.17m, having recorded the best throw of the day in her first-round attempt. She was followed by her teammate James, who produced a throw of 13.14m.
St Catherine High’s Oshari Buchanan (12.91), Hydel’s Natassia Burrell (12.74), Athilia Pryce of Clarendon College (12.12), Immaculate Conception’s Toniann Bryan (11.80), Marsha McKoy of Petersfield High (11.79) and Adonay Fearon of St Andrew High (11.73 round out the top eight qualifiers.
The other finalists include Abbygale West of Holmwood Technical (11.30), Edwin Allen’s Alliah Gittens (11.22) and Shamoye Morris (10.68) and Shabiekel Byfield of Camperdown High (11.01).
The final of the Class 1 girls’ shot put is slated for Saturday at 2:12 pm.
