Earth Hour set for March 23
Once again, organisers of Earth Hour have curated what they describe as an exciting line-up of performers and artisans to commemorate the significant occasion this Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Hope Gardens.
Performers include Iotosh, Alaine, Etana, Warrior King, Alexx A Game, among others.
Earth Hour is the single, largest, symbolic mass participation event in the world that was born out of a hope to mobilise earthlings to take action on climate change. It has grown from a symbolic “lights out” in 2007 to one of the world’s largest grass roots movements for the environment spanning over 7,000 cities and 190 countries.
Using music as the universal language, 2013 saw the execution of the first Earth Hour Acoustic Concert. The concerts held since then have marked the initiation of Jamaica’s participation in the global movement, with support of over 5,000 physical patrons, enjoying an evening packed with the natural mystic of live acoustic music and education about the greater cause.
As has become customary some sustainability efforts will feature at the event. For 2024 the focus will include
• plastic-free efforts continue; single-use plastics prohibited; patrons encouraged to BYOC (bring your own cup)
• tickets distributed electronically and barcodes scanned upon entry
• cut back on the usage of paper cups
• elements of the layout and décor are made with reusable and/or biodegradable materials
• Planet Play, an edutainment sponsored game section, which will later be donated to an organisation or school.
Also among the family fun entertainment will be Hope Zoo’s Wildlife Wonders, which will feature an interactive section and small petting zoo.
Free tickets to attend the event are available at https://www.earthhourja.com.
