Young Strikers take Craig Town Easter Football Competition
Young Strikers emerged winners of this year’s Craig Town Youth Organisation Annual Easter Football Competition, taking home the Dr Omar Davies Trophy, $100,000 cash and medals for each member of the team.
A total of 32 teams, divided into eight zones, from St Andrew Southern and Kingston Western constituencies vied for top prizes in the competition that started with a gruelling round of 16, followed by a round of eight, the semi-finals, and climaxed with the finals on Easter Monday, April 1, in Craig Town.
Organised by the St Andrew Southern constituency and Craig Town Youth Organisation, the competition has been successfully held each year since 2009 and was forced to take a break at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Opposition Leader Mark Golding, Member of Parliament (MP) for St Andrew Southern, is the main sponsor of the competition, which is aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence among residents of communities in both constituencies.
Honorary sponsor is Dr Omar Davies, former MP for St Andrew Southern and former finance minister.
Other sponsors are Chin’s Construction, Total Energies, White Rain Publishing, Rainforest Seafoods, Woodcats, XSOMO, Bruce Miller, Orrett Wellington, BossChic Plug, Wisynco, Agency for Innercity Renewal, and JMMB.
Associate partners in the event are West Kingston Police Division, Admiral Town Police Station, Violence Prevention Alliance, and Pop’s Sports Bar.
Benbow Street team took the second prize of $40,000 cash and medals, while the third place prize of $20,000 was won by Washington Gardens team, and team Angola took the fourth place prize of $10,000.
