ASAJ vice-president encouraged by Carifta artistic swimming display
Robyn Chin Sang, vice-president of Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) with responsibility for artistic swimming, says Jamaica’s performance at the 2024 Carifta Artistic Swimming Championship in the United States bodes well for the development of the sport.
Although the three athletes — Jordyanna Thomas, Johanana Doman, and Joydayne White — who represented the country didn’t win any gold medals, they admirably swam away with one silver and five bronze. All three swimmers were placed in the top eight for each of their categories.
“There was a high level of competition at the championships. They did well for their first meeting of this magnitude. Of course, there is always room for growth, but overall, we are grateful for the opportunity to have Jamaicans on the podium,” Chin Sang told the
Jamaica Observer after the championship which was staged at the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“Having team Jamaica represent at the Carifta Championships for artistic swimming was a big accomplishment for the country, and for the girls to have qualified to make it to that event shows the potential of our athletes,” she said.
Chin Sang praised the girls for showing improvement in their game from their last international meet held in February.
“Even with the improvement, more can be done as the girls are young and new to the level in which they compete. They even had the opportunity to participate in a two-day training clinic after the Carifta games, and they have indicated that they learned a lot from their fellow competitors and international coaches,” she affirmed.
