Consistency pays off for connections of Sweet Victory
Consistency paid off for the connections of Sweet Victory, as the four-year-old grey filly picked up her second victory for the season from five starts in the seventh event on Saturday’s (April 6, 2024) eight-race card.
The contest was a native-bred four-year-old and up (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-old and up (maidens) at nine furlongs and 25 yards.
Sweet Victory, bred by Spieth out of Bitter End, owned by Willie’s Racing Stables, trained by Howard Jaghai, and ridden by Tevin Foster, came from behind horses to win, going away by 2 ¼ lengths in a time of 2:04.0 (27.0 x 52.20 x 1:18.3 x 1:47.4).
Simply Sensational (Paul Francis) led the field ahead of Skyrizi (Richard Henry), Sparkles (Josue Osorio), and Always Wright (Jerome Innis) around the clubhouse turn and onto the main track.
Sweet Victory then raced among the backmarkers and made slight improvements down the backstretch as the leaders all maintained a steady gallop.
Going into the half-mile turn, Sparkles kicked clear of Always Wright and Skyrizi while
Sweet Victory began to round horses.
Sweet Victory hugged the inside rails, cut the turn, and produced a strong run in a deep stretch to get by rivals for the win. Princess Talise (Oshane Nugent) finished second and
Always Wright came home in third place.
