Teams gear up for quarter-finals of KPMG Squash league
After three gruelling rounds of matches in the 24th KPMG League, the teams now look forward to the quarter-finals at the Jamaica Squash Association’s headquarters at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston.
The first set of matches, which are scheduled for Tuesday, will see Racketeers vs Team Big Shots; Blown vs Premium Reserve; The Juniors vs Squashbucklers; and Jamaica Defence Force vs Youth & Experience.
Action is set to begin at 6:00 pm.
The second set of quarter-final matches is scheduled for Thursday at the same venue. It will feature Fantastic Warriors vs Court Crushers; Saints vs Rampant Rollers; AGI vs Bulldozers; and Samosas vs Campion Champions.
Champions AGI began their title defence positively back in early March when they won all three matches in the first round 3-0 over Squashbucklers. But they lost in round two by a 1-2 scoreline to Racketeers and in the third round they were decimated 0-3 by Court Crushers.
Based on the results at the end of the group stage and given the losses suffered by AGI, a new champion will be crowned this year. AGI lost national players Julian and Stephan Morrison which affected the team’s ability to withstand the stiff competition this year.
The teams currently in the running for a place in the final include Racketeers, Team Big Shot, Blown, Premium Reserve, Fantastic Warriors, Court Crushers, Saints and Rampant Rollers. The others will be playing for a place in the 16-team league.
The league is run by the Karen Anderson-led Jamaica Squash Association.
