Hard to believe that it has been 40 years since Klymaxx first had partygoers slow dancing to I Miss You, a monster hit single from their album, Meeting In The Ladies Room.

Reggae singer Empress Uneek recently covered the song, putting a reggae spin on the Rhythm And Blues ballad that peaked at number five on Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 in 1984.

Her version, produced by Ed Robinson, is scheduled for release on Friday, April 12.

“I was very familiar with the original version of the song. It was suggested to me by a very dear friend, Mr G Cole, along with a few others that he thought I could execute pretty well,” Empress Uneek told Observer Online.

She credits working with Robinson for ‘converting’ the original to reggae, describing him as “an extremely awesome producer who makes it all come together easily.”

The South Florida-based artiste said she has been a fan of Klymaxx “for many years”. That all-black female band had a breakout 40 years ago with Meeting In The Ladies Room which also produced hit singles in the title song, and The Men All Pause.

Empress Uneek migrated to the United States from Jamaica at age seven. She has recorded a number of songs including Silent River, A Man Like You and Old Fashion Love.
