Run Julie Run primed for Thornbird Stakes win

Run Julie Run, runner-up to Interestntimesahead in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes last December, headlines a field of 15 in tomorrow’s $1.75-million Thornbird Stakes (GRII) contest over 7 furlongs.

The Graded Stakes contest is one of the major preparation races on the ‘Road to the Triple Crown’ series of races for native-bred three-year-old fillies.

Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at the runners and assesses their chance of winning.

1.BUTTERCUP: (3 b f by Conquest Cherimash – Shahar) – Has not done anything in her two starts this season to suggest that she can be considered for a winning shot.
Buttercup is going to be left behind here.

2. COMEHOMETOME: (3 b f by Northern Giant – Heart of Gold) – A consistent runner who has doing well in her races without actually winning.
Comehometome should continue to earn for her connections here.

3. LUCY IN THE SKY: (3 b f by Liquidity – Tap A Bay) – Has been struggling to find form in recent times.
Lucy In The Sky should be bypassed here.

4. RUN JULIE RUN: (3 gr f by Successful Native – Runaway Julie) – Easily the best runner in the line-up.
Run Julie Run finished second by 2 ½ lengths behind Intrestntimesahead over one mile on December 26, 2023 in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes. She had made her seasonal debut in a 6 ½ furlongs race on February 24 and finished third behind American-bred
Amazing Force and Comehometome. Since then she has been training well for this race and should return to winning ways here. Note: Blinkers off.

5. BLU SENSATION : (3 b f by Sensational Slam – Blues In The Grass) – Finished fifth by 7 ½ lengths in the Hotline Stakes behind Banadura over 6 furlongs on March 23.
Blu Sensation could go home piece of the cake here.

6. BATTLE ANGEL: (3 ch f by Bern Identity – Angel Dreams) – Got home via the stewards’ room on March 23.
Battle Angel cannot win here.

7. O SO SMART: (3 ch f by Soul Warrior – Patchwork) – On of two fillies in the line-up that has won two races.
O So Smart was an easy winner by 3 lengths beating Cryptogirl and Playfair on April 1 over 5 ½ furlongs. O So Smart is expected to run another pleasing race here.

8.MS CHERRY: (3 b f by Sensational Slam – Fiftyshadesofray) – Was expected to perform better than her fourth-place finish in the Hotline Stakes on March 23.
Ms Cherry has trained well for this race and given her potential, she could give the favouirte a run for her money here. Note: Tongue-tie on, figure-8 off.

9. BANADURA: (3 b f by Casual Trick – Esperanza) – Winner of the Hotline Stakes over 6 furlongs on March 23.
Banadura should have no problem going a furlong here and is expected to play a prominent role in the outcome of the race.

10.MIDNIGHT FLIGHT : (3 gr f by Midnight hawk – Honeymoon Bay) – Made an encouraging debut on March 23 when winning over 5 furlongs round by 5 ½ lengths in a time of 1:02.2. With room for improvement, Midnight Flight should not be disgraced here.

11. LADY LAUREN: (3 b f by Deputy Glitters – Anna) – Is not expected to impact on this race.

12. DON’T TELL LOU LOU: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Lastochka) – Has no chance of winning this one.

13.AMMA: (3 b f by Bern Identity – Blufield) – Was impressive when releasing the maiden tag on February 14 over 7 furlongs.
Amma won the race by 9 lengths in a smooth 1:28.1. Look for another good run from
Amma here.

14. SHANY STAR: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Gentle Officer) – Showed improvement on her second outing when putting away rivals over 6 ½ furlongs by 7 ¼ lengths in 1:22.1.
Shany Star could make her presence felt throughout the race.

15. FASTNFURIOIUSLINKS: (3 gr/rn f by Casual Trick – Another Fury) – Cannot be recommended for a winning run here.
