Intrestntimesahead to take Prince Consort Stakes on seasonal debut

Intrestntimesahead, the Jason DaCosta-conditioned two-year-old from last season, makes his seasonal debut in what is expected to be a successful outing in today’s 31st staging of the $1.75-million Prince Consort Stakes feature event.

The Graded Stakes contest is one of the major preparation races on the ‘Road to the Triple Crown’ for native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings. The event will run over seven furlongs (1,400m).

On December 26, 2023, Intrestntimesahead won the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes over one mile (1,600m), making him the leading three-year-old and winter book favourite for the Jamaica 2000 Guineas.

Since then, the three-year-old bay colt Intrestntimesahead has been well-prepared for his first start of the season. He worked with Sunset Silhoutte, galloping six furlongs (1,200m) in 1:15.0 to his stablemate’s 1:16.0 last Sunday.

Despite his top weight of 57.0 kgs (126 lb), Intrestntimesahead appears to be in fantastic shape, and based on his quality and talent, he will take a lot of beatings here. Leading rider Tevin Foster will ride Intrestntimesahead, replacing Phillip Parchment aboard the
Bold Conquest – My Friend Lucy offspring.

The contest is positioned as the ninth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 5:10 pm, but the first race is at noon.

Crown Chaser, Captain Sparrow, and Allegiance from Anthony Nunes’ stable could provide the most serious danger to the favourite here. Meanwhile, J Spieth, taught by Patrick Lynch, and Teflon Don, trained by DaCosta, should not be overlooked in the final calculations.

Crown Chaser (Bern Identity – Salty Talk) made an impressive debut at the races on January 28 over six and a half furlongs (1,300m). The bay colt won by nine lengths in a smooth time of 1:21.3 on the bridle. He has been doing well at exercise for the nearly three months away from the competitive race and could take the fight to Intrestntimesahead here. Raddesh Roman remains in the irons.

Captain Sparrow released the maiden over seven furlongs on March 30, winning the race by two and a half lengths in a time of 1:30.2. Captain Sparrow seemed the type that would love more real estate here but could find himself on the premises in this one. Romario Spencer will ride.

Allegiance created a mild upset on last when beating rivals in the Sir Howard Stakes over six furlongs on March 24. The chestnut colt came from behind runners to win the race by a half-length in 1:16.1. Now going a furlong (200m) longer, Allegiance will be coming at them in the stretch and could arrive in time. Panamanian Josue Osorio will take up the reins here.

J Spieth, who finished second in the Sir Howard Stakes, and Teflon Don, who was placed fifth in the same race, should play prominent roles here.
