Couple referred to mediation after man allegedly threatens women with chopper
KINGSTON, Jamaica— A recently separated common-law couple was referred to mediation in an assault case after it was alleged that the man held a knife to the woman’s throat after she reportedly visited a sick friend.
It is alleged that on March 17, the complainant went to a friend’s house who was sick to look after her.
While there, she reportedly received multiple missed calls from the accused, Dwight Gayle.
The complainant alleges that by the time she attempted to return Gayle’s calls, he turned up to the friend’s house, and was seen coming out of a car with a chopper, court documents said.
Gayle reportedly held the knife to the complainants neck and said “Me will kill you, me will kill you.”
A report was made to the police and Gayle was charged with assault at common law and making threats.
The lawyer representing Gayle made a suggestion for mediation.
Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell enquired if the complainant was afraid of the accused to which she responded in the negative.
The matter was then referred to Restorative Justice and is set for mention on June 23, 2024.
