What is it like dressing Sagicorians for the 2024 Corporate Awards? “Exciting,” says Soshorna Henry, whose show-stopping designs for Sagicor Life Executive Financial Advisor Shasha Byfield and Financial Advisor Rochelle Spencer-Gayle were her brainchild.

The HEART Trust/NTA Garmex Academy-trained, Mission Catwalk contestant, who helms the full-service couture house Renasci, has become a go-to for women who rely on her craftsmanship to create stunning red carpet-worthy gowns.

“I cater to women who want to feel luxurious and unique. I tend to think Renasci sells more than just unique pieces; we create and sell a vibe… a mood. Whoever you want to be in the moment, I strive to deliver just that!” Henry tells Tuesday Style Fashion (TSF).

Her avant-garde aesthetic — which she has been honing for over 10 years — drew plenty of admiration from onlookers, as Byfield and Spencer-Gayle hit the red carpet at the Jamaica Pegasus on April 10. Henry, as she often does for big events, collaborated with Samuel Sylvister menswear designer Orlando Samuels on a complementary look for Byfield’s husband Douglas.

TSF takes a look back at the standout pieces, through the lens of Henry and Samuels, who exclusively share style notes behind the red- carpet moments.

Shasha

The gold and black design was crafted from stretch peau de soie and gold African reflective beaded lace. The corset bodice featured a lace-up back and a mermaid style skirt with gold side trail. Another highlight of the gown were the 3-D hardened leavelettes and matching gele.

Rochele

Rochele’s dress was inspired by the Zulu tribe of South Africa, and was designed to match her bold, fashionable character. Her illusioned corset bodice is overlayed by rows of shimmery strips warping at the hip to create 3-D details. “I love doing 3-D details on my peices,” says Henry. The skirt boasts a mix of sequinned fringes and lacey patterns.

Douglas

We tailored a striking bespoke gold embellished black asymmetrical cut jacket suit that exudes sophistication and cultural richness.

The intricate gold embellishments on the jacket, delicately accentuate the rich black fabric, adding a touch of opulence and luxury. The look was completed with a black kufi striking the perfect balance between traditional elegance and contemporary style.
