Former Irwin High team manager to return to court for grievous sexual assault case
Former manager for Irwin High School’s football team Fabian Kelvin is set to reappear in court in St James on Thursday after being charged with grievous sexual assault of a male student.
The Jamaica Observer could not confirm the date of the alleged incident but discovered that Kelvin was offered bail of $500,000 when he attended court on Wednesday, April 3.
When contacted by the Observer on Tuesday, commanding officer for the St James Police Division, Superintendent Eron Samuels, declined to comment on the matter. Senior superintendent of police in charge of the Corporate Communications Unit Stephanie Lindsay also told the Observer that she couldn’t provide any more details at this time.
Irwin’s principal, when contacted on Tuesday, declined to comment and said all matters should go through the school’s chairman who also failed to provide a response as of press time.
However, the Observer has learnt that Kelvin was not directly employed by the school and has since terminated their relationship with him.
Kelvin joined Irwin’s football programme in 2019 and was also part of the team’s management in the ISSA Dacosta Cup Under-19 competition last season where the school advanced to the second round after finishing second in their zone behind former champions Cornwall College. They were then beaten in the second round of the competition by St Elizabeth Technical High School.
He also was reportedly an administrator of Irwin’s Youth Academy and served as Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) coordinator for St James.
