PropRentalJA bringing unique set designs to local music video scene

KINGSTON, Jamaica — With the cost of shooting music videos steadily increasing over the last decade, many video directors have been seeking creative alternatives to bringing their visions to life.

Now officially in its second year of operations, PropRentalJA more popularly known as MusicVideoPropsJA, has become the ‘one-stop shop’ for local video directors seeking equipment, costumes, props, locations and set design options.

According to founder Chris “Icey Jace” Campbell, the idea to start the business came from a desire to help grow the industry.

“As a video director myself I wanted to create a space for other creatives to not only have access to a wide variety of props for rent, but to also assist with sourcing locations, talent, luxury vehicles or even set designs. We truly strive to be the #1 source for creatives looking to step outside the box.”

Since entering the space, PropRentalJA has garnered tremendous popularity among directors and photographers with an estimated 50 per cent of all videos shot in the island utilising their services.

“We have expanded outside of just renting in Kingston to now servicing orders in other parishes. Last year was particularly memorable for us after landing a contract to provide photo booths for Hyundai at the Chris Brown and Friends Concert. Those booths were a hit with hundreds of patrons interacting with our designs.”

According to Campbell, a major key to being in entertainment is having connections and for PropRentalJA bringing customers closer to renters is big business.

“Our goal has always been to be of service to the industry so we also provide a significant amount of resources to upcoming creatives by connecting them with owners as well other rental companies. We are also working on making even bigger strides in the coming months,” he said.

To date artistes such as Sean Paul, Bounty Killer, Masicka, Leftside, 450, Julian Marley, Valiant, Stalk Ashley, Elephant Man, Kraff, Najeeriii, IWaata, Jahmiel, I Octane and Alison Hinds have all shared in the PropRentalJA experience.
