INSPORTS/Devon Biscuits Eastern Champs kicks off today
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The 42nd staging of the Institute of Sports/Devon Biscuits All-Island Primary Schools Athletics Championships starts on Wednesday at 9:00 am with the three-day Eastern Championships at the Stadium East facility in Kingston.
There will be two other regional championships – the Central (May 6-8) and Western (May 9-11) followed by the grand finale, known as the Nationals (May 20-22), to determine the All-Island champions.
Lyssons Primary of St Thomas are the defending Eastern and All-Island champions hunting for their third consecutive title.
Fifty-six (56) schools will be competing at the Eastern Championship comprising – schools from Kingston and St Andrew, St Thomas and Portland, all gunning to dethrone powerhouse Lyssons Primary.
The regional champion will walk away with $350,000, an increase from last year’s $250,000 winning prize, while second place will bag $250,000 and third place $200,000. Fourth to tenth place will receive $100,000 each, up from $75,000.
In the national championships, $600,000 will go to first place, with second and third places receiving $350,000 and $300,000, respectively. Fourth to tenth place will each receive $150,000.
The final day of each regional Championship and the All-island championship will be broadcast live on TrackAlerts.
Television Jamaica will be broadcasting live at the National Championship and radio stations The Edge 105 FM and Fyah 105 FM will be doing outside broadcasting throughout.
