In yesterday’s Sunday Observer story on concerns raised by residents of Mona Heights in St Andrew about the construction of a third floor on a single-family residence, we incorrectly reported that our attempts to get a comment on the matter from Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby were not successful.
Mayor Swaby had actually responded to one of the questions, confirming that a complaint about the construction had triggered a random inspection.
He said that an application for an extension on the house was approved on December 13, 2003.
“The proposed extension spoke of two additional floors, therefore the proposed single-family development would have a total of three floors,” Swaby said in a WhatsApp response.
He said that at the time the inspection was conducted construction was in progress, however the approved drawing was not on site and as such a stop notice was placed on the construction and the applicant asked to make contact with Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation and produce the approved drawing in order for that to be compared with what exists on the ground.
We regret the error.
